ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS ARE SAFE SUGAR REPLACEMENT FOR DIABETES.

People with diabetes are recommended to take less sugar because it will increase their blood glucose level. Diabetics have abnormal blood sugar control or their cells become insulin resistant. So they are advised not to take sucrose which is table sugar . Instead artificial sweeteners are preferable for them.
Artificial sweeteners are synthetic chemicals that stimulate the sweet taste buds. They have low calories and less carbohydrate in them.Their sweetening power is too much that they only used in small quantity. Products that have "Sugar  free" written on the packs are actually have artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols in them.  Sugar alcohols are also sweeteners ,they do not have alcohols in them , they are reduce calorie sweeteners, does not change blood glucose level, found in certain fruits. They are absorbed in intestine but eventually excreted from kidney unchanged. However they cause digestive issues.  There are some artificial sweeteners that are given below, found in diet soda , baking items like cake, bread pudding, ice cream and chewing gum etc

  • Acesulfame potassium   also known as Ace-K, it is heat stable and can be used in baking, it remain even in moderate acidic and basic conditions.
  • Aspartame has phenylalanin in it, so patients of phenylketonuria  should avoid it. It is not heat stable and usually found in diet soda etc
  • Neotame is 7000-8000 times sweeter than sucrose and it is used in large food industries.
  • Saccharine is the oldest artificial sweetener known so far. It is heat stable good to use in baking.
  • Sucralose is also an artificial sweetener and also heat stable.
  • Stevia is non- nutritive, zero calorie sweetener, it has antioxidant and anti diabetic properties. It suppress plasma glucose level, increase glucose tolerance, increase insulin effect on cells and also stabilize sugar level in body. Its actually not an artificial sweetener, but  found in a plant. The best way to consume it is, grow a plant by yourself and use it.

Our body respond to artificial sweeteners differently as it respond to regular sugar. Increase consumption of them leading to obesity which is a main cause of diabetes. A study in rats shows that artificial sweeteners cause changes in gut bacteria due to which cells become resistant to insulin and as a result both insulin and glucose level increases in blood. But this response is not found in human. Artificial sweeteners won't raise blood sugar level, at least they are less bad than refined sugar. There is no strong evidence that will stop you from them. If you are still concern  than use natural sweeteners or remove sweeteners all together.
