The idea that people are either left brained or right brained or one side of brain dominant is just a myth. You have seen a lot of apps out there asking to test yourself weather you are left brained or right brained. Let me tell you that our brain work evenly. There is no prove that left brained people have analytical and verbal style of thinking and right brained people are holistic and creative. Our brain has two sides which are called as hemispheres. There is left hemisphere and right hemisphere. . They connected with each other through a neural structure called corpus callosum. It is responsible for transmitting neural messages between both left and right hemispheres. If there is a connection between them that mean they collaborate with each other. The myth arise from a researcher ROGER SPERRY, he studied patients with epilepsy who were treated with surgical procedure that cut the brain along corpus callosum. He found by cutting the connection between two hemispheres the chances of seizures has been reduced. Sperry and other researchers than determine which part of brain involve in language, math, drawing and other functions in these patients. Than some psychologist created this notion that personalities determine by having one side of Brain dominate the other.
However, brain lateralization is real. The tendency for some neural function to be more dominant in one hemisphere than the other is called lateralization. For example, the left hemisphere play role in ability to speak than the right hemisphere.The two side of brain collaborate to perform a variety of function like the ability to understand what we read or what someone is saying to us require both hemispheres, working together and separately. The left hemisphere control right body parts and right hemisphere control left body parts. Neuron in brain spread evenly. They complement and work with each other. The damage to either hemisphere can cause difficulty in math. It just does not related to left side only. It takes two hemispheres to be logical or creative.
